Oak chairs for the Merchant Taylors school

Part of a set of ten chairs that we restored for the Merchant Taylors school. The chairs had been stored in a damp basement for many years and were in need of extensive repairs. The joints had completely failed and broken on most of the chairs and they had also suffered damage to the leg bottoms due to incorrect castors having been fitted. The chairs were completely stripped down, and knocked apart. All the frames were repaired where needed and then completely re-glued. The frames were then re-polished and traditionally re-upholstered in green leather, close nailed all round and new porcelain wheel castors fitted.
